The International Committee of Red Cross on Monday said it had collaborated with the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria to provide vital training in the subject, ‘Healthcare in Danger,’ to Nigerians.

A statement by the ICRC said the training, according to the National Chairman, APHPN, Prof. B. S. C. Uzochukwu, is to infuse the subject of “Healthcare in Danger into the curriculum of medical education in Nigeria.”

It explained that the training which took place on May 25th and 26th, 2021, discussed issues in “Types of Armed Conflicts (AC) and Challenges of Healthcare Delivery in AC and other emergencies, Legal Framework for Protection of Medical Mission in AC and other emergencies, among others.”

“In Conclusion, we went away with two major issues for further discussion; How do we go about developing a data collection mechanism; this is a call to action for health care workers. There are no specific laws that protect the health worker in times of armed conflict and other situations of violence other than the right to life, right to health and the citizens’ rights,” the statement added.
