Little Birdy have expanded on their late 2024 reunion with their first national tour in nearly 15 years. The Perth indie-pop band will play ten headlining shows across the country, at which they will play their 2004 debut album bigbiglove in its entirety as a “21st birthday” of sorts. The full list of tour dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be accessed below.
The reunited Little Birdy sees frontwoman Katy Steele joined by founding members Simon Leach on guitar and Scott “Barney” O’Donoghue on bass, as well as touring drummer Sam Maher. In a press statement, Steele noted that revisiting the album – and, by proxy, her early 20s – had been a “unique and healing experience”. “These songs still feel just as real as they did when we first wrote them,” she said. “I can’t wait to see our old fans down the front, singing along again — just like we did all those years ago.”
Little Birdy – ‘Beautiful To Me’
Leach, for his part, added that he never thought Little Birdy “would have a chapter two” following their 2010 split. ” Playing on stage again, seeing Little Birdy devotees and a whole new generation singing along — it’s surreal, and we’re so grateful to be doing this again,” he said.
bigbiglove was originally released in October of 2004. It reached number five on the ARIA Albums Chart, was certified Gold and was nominated for four ARIA Awards – including Breakthrough Artist and Best Rock Album. The album spawned three singles: ‘Beautiful To Me’, ‘Tonight’s The Night’ and ‘Excited’. All three charted locally, with ‘Beautiful To Me’ peaking at number 27 on the ARIA Singles Chart as well as number eight in that year’s triple j Hottest 100.
Little Birdy split following the release of their third album, Confetti, in 2009. Steele relocated to New York and pursued a solo career, releasing the albums Human in 2016 and Big Star in 2023. The band reunited last year as part of that summer’s Hotter Than Hell festivities, which saw them perform bigbiglove in full alongside the likes of Regurgitator, Less Than Jake, Unwritten Law and Jebediah.
