ICRC in South Sudan

As such, the ICRC strives to ensure the humane and dignified treatment of people deprived of liberty in places of detention, facilitate the restoration of family contact, and search for missing persons. The organization also works to prevent hardship by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and advocating for universal humanitarian principles.

In the current context, it has reinforced its surgical capacities to treat weapon wounded as a result to increased hostilities in-country.

The ICRC works as well closely with the South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC), to deliver vital emergency assistance and healthcare services. Its work in South Sudan aims to restore and improve the lives of the most vulnerable people by providing communities with essential household items and help them rebuild their livelihoods, as well as by delivering healthcare, physical rehabilitation services, and psychosocial support. The ICRC also repairs critical infrastructure, such as water supply systems.
